When you plan a long road trip, you spend hours, weeks, maybe even years planning the ins and outs of your trip. You map out your journey and secure lodging for your stay. You establish milestones to cover every site you wish to see. You make lists of everything you need to pack (kids come with so much gear!!!). If you are driving, you’ve ensured your vehicle is in tip-top shape before making the long drive. You even put together the emergency roadside kit for blown tires or any other car trouble.
You go to great lengths to ensure your family trip is a success, but how much time do you spend making sure your family is successful? Have you taken the time to map out your family roadmap?
The success of your family relies completely on your ability to consistently make choices that align with your values, set and achieve goals, and maintain and nurture the most important relationships in your life.
The actions you repeat (or don’t repeat) daily, weekly, and monthly determine everything from your health to your happiness. Knowing how to be the cartographer of your family’s road map—laying out exactly which direction you are heading and knowing the steps required to get there—puts you in the driver’s seat.
Just look at what happens as each positive action compounds into the family you’ve envisioned:
>You KNOW who you are (and who you are dedicated to being every day) and are clear on what values you wish your family to represent.
>>You have the instruction manual for teaching YOUR children.
>>>You are not a victim of what happens to you, but in control of your life. Your family is strong and can withstand even the biggest catastrophes or hardships.
>>>>You and your children are happy and thriving because you all live with purpose and clear direction.
